Late 1800s

The Bliss farm established a dairy business under the name Locust Grove Farm, delivering milk to customers in Attleboro and Pawtucket.

1920s

Bliss Bros. Dairy Inc. was created when Thomas and Eva built a small dairy plant behind their home, along with an ice cream stand next to it at 697 Park St.

Horse-drawn delivery wagons were gradually replaced by trucks. Milk routes expanded north to Foxboro, southwest to Seekonk, and east to Taunton. The ice cream stand continued to gain popularity with local residents, and more flavors were added.

Kent Bliss and his son David converted the Park Street ice cream parlor into a full-service restaurant. Five similar Bliss restaurants opened in Taunton, North Attleboro, Canton, Sharon, and Norton, operating at various times between 1966 and 2001. To this day, the original Bliss restaurant in Attleboro remains a New England icon, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, and, of course, ice cream.

1978

The Bliss family sold the business to Bruce Ginsberg, owner of New England Ice Cream Corp. Bruce and his sons, Max, Ben, and Sam, now run the family business, committed to preserving the more than 100-year-old brand and continuing to produce premium-quality ice cream for the next century.

March 2015

Bliss undergoes major renovations to its building, plant, and grounds. To promote community engagement, walk-up windows and a large outdoor park were added for the community. The company also upgraded its manufacturing facility with state-of-the-art equipment to improve capacity and efficiency. In 2023, local “The Art of Life” artists Bonnie Lee Turner and Charles Clear were commissioned to paint two 20-foot murals celebrating ice cream and local dairy farms.
